KLG Macassa Tailings Dam

Design – Build, Deep Soil Mixing (DSM)

Kirkland Lake, Ontario

Project Description

AGI was contracted to improve the settlement performance and mitigate the potential for slope instability of a new proposed tailings dam for a gold mine in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Access for the project required significant clearing and grading out to the remote site to transport the large drilling equipment and cement deliveries to the site. AGI design and constructed a DSM key

Application

  • Limit settlement of the proposed dam
  • Provide shear resistance at the dam toe
  • to improve factor of safety against slope instability

Geotechnical Conditions

  • Layer of surficial peat
  • Soft silts and clays to 55’
  • Bedrock materials below 55’
